Smartboard isn't responding to touch but the USB connection looks good.

Symptom:

  • Smartboard is not responding to touch by finger or pen.

Facts:

  • Pen tray lights are solid green indicating a good USB connection.
  • The physical USB connection at both the computer and the pen tray feels solid.
  • Rebooting the computer did not fix the problem
  • When attempting to calibrate the cameras through advanced hardware settings, you get an error indicating that one or more of the cameras cameras is not functioning.

Solution: Reset the power connection at the back of the pen tray. Do this by unplugging and replugging the power adapter at the back of the pen tray.

Explanation:

This solves the problem in two ways. First, it assures that the cameras are getting a proper flow of power. The pen tray gets its power from the USB connection while the cameras get their power from the power cord. Therefore, an illuminated power switch does not necessarily mean that the cameras have adequate power.

Second, unplugging and replugging the power cord "reboots" the smartboard in a way that pressing the power button does not.
