Chromebook pointer is missing or trackpad is not working. - How to power down an unresponsive chromebook.

This simplest solution to this problem is to reboot the device, but how do we do that without pointer control?

First, log out the current user with the keyboard shortcut: ctrl+shift+q. You will need to do this key sequence twice to confirm that you really do want to log out.

To shut down down the device, press and hold the power button for several seconds. This takes longer than you think, so be patient. It could take 10-20 seconds.

After the screen goes blank, wait another 10 seconds then press the power button again to reboot.

You should have trackpad control after rebooting. If not, there may be a hardware issue, and you will need to submit a trouble ticket.
