How to Connect Android Device to BYOD Network

Symptom:
After selecting SPS BYOD network from your Android phone, the device will not associate with the network.

Cause:
Android requires that you properly configure the network settings before associating with an 802.1x network. In contrast, OSX, iOS and Windows will associate with the SSID and then prompt for credentials.

Solution:
Before attempting to connect to the BYOD network, add and configure the Wi-Fi settings on your device using the directions below. You will need the following information:

  • SSID = SPS BYOD
  • Identity = IN\First.Last
  • Anonymous identity is left blank
  1. At the home page, navigate to Settings.

  2. Navigate to Wi-Fi > Add Wi-Fi network.

  3. Enter the Network SSID name, "SPS BYOD" and choose 802.1x EAP from the Security drop-down menu.

  4. Choose PEAP from the EAP method drop-down menu.
  5. Choose MSCHAPV2 from the Phase 2 authentication drop-down menu.
  6. Enter the domain and username in the Identity field. Use "IN\first.last" .
Note: This is where your credentials are different from iPhone users. You must prefix your username with "INTERNAL\". INTERNAL is the domain name for our Active Directory server.
  7. Enter the password for the corresponding username in the password field.
  8. Optionally, check the Show Password check-box to verify that the password was entered correctly.
  9. Press Save in order to save the changes.
